By chance I had some red poster colour which I used for the second hand. For safety I slid a piece of paper between the the hand being coloured and the face. The hands can then be coloured, I used a Pentel permanent marker to colour the hour and minute hands black.

Then lift the face+motor section free of the "bezel+glass", turn it face side up and put it on a flat surface. Nearly forgot! Remove battery when hands are clear of each other. With the clock face down on a flat surface each spring can released by finger pressure disengaging one side of the "V" from under the edge of the bezel. Inside the back of the clock are six "V" shaped springs which secure the bezel+glass to the face+motor unit. However, if you are prepared to abandon any guarantee it is easy to colour the hands black. I agree with many others the hands should not be silver.
